What are these UF challenges?
How do challenges work and how can I participate?
Can I help promoting the challenges in some way?
What if I have an idea for a future challenge?

You can find all this information and more in the Ultra Fractal challenges FAQ, which is also part of our very first UF challenge, the one for February 2011.
If you already know the rules, then you're good to go - read on for this month's challenge!

Previous editions:

You can find all of the previous challenges in this journal. Please keep in mind that the challenge rules changed after the 26th edition!

Links to ALL UF challenges (updated periodically!)Since the UF challenges are growing in number, instead of linking them all in each new one, I thought I'd make a collection journal for all of them. This will contain all challenges held so far, from the newest (top) to the oldest (bottom), all conveniently thumbed for you! It will also be updated each month so that ALL challenges are reachable from here, even the newer ones. And this journal will of course be linked in every challenge, to keep them all connected :aww:
Here we go!

Now we can go on with the last challenge's results, and then I will introduce this month's challenge to you all.

Here is the October challenge, and the deviations I've picked as the winners!
(Please note: do not feel offended if your fractals haven't been picked. Winners are chosen basing on their way of representing the challenge theme, and I always try to be as impartial as possible while judging.)

The winner of the Formula challenge is StottyK with Mandel Steppes:

Mandel Steppes by StottyK

For such a limiting challenge restriction, a truly beautiful piece came out! The intricacy of the patterns around the minibrot are great to make the tiny details pop out, and the undying classic is celebrated in all its fractal glory.

The winner of the Theme challenge is AnnaKirsten with Sun Dogs:

Sun Dogs by AnnaKirsten

An entry that is nothing short of amazing. Anna has proven her worth in the fractal landscapes department, but this work truly takes the cake for blending in shapes, tones and a faint, evening atmosphere together all in one piece. Masterful and pleasant to look at!

The winner of the Other challenge is Velvet--Glove with Flower Crush:

A most unusually flowery way of celebrating the colour orange, and yet there it is, stretching out a flurry of leaves, petals, and tiny bokeh dots. This piece is exceptionally lively and bright, the perfect way of homaging an equally vivid and warm colour tone.

All other entrants deserve a feature just the same, so here they are for you to see!

We're done for October. On to November!

Ultra Fractal monthly challenges Redux

Challenge #58: November 2015

November's Formula challenge will be the Log Spiral challenge!
This is much more straightforward than your usual Formula deal: entries in this challenge will have to use the mapping Log Spiral, found in dmj3.uxf, on all layers. No other mappings are allowed. There are no restriction on fractal formulas or colouring algorithms. Make an interesting spiral... in a non-traditional way!

November's Theme challenge will be the Waiting Game challenge!
Fractals entering this challenge should express the concept of waiting. Whether an only-just-started wait, a long one, or a just-finished one, or something that has been suspended indefinitely, or simply delayed... what is there to that wait? Anticipation? Doubt? Anxiety? A mix of curiosity and being antsy for something new that is about to happen? That's up to you to say! The theme may look complex to put into a fractal, but it's entirely open to interpretation; don't be afraid to tweak it around.

November's Style challenge will be the Vectort Art challenge!
Vector art is an entirely digital art form, both figurative and abstract, which is largely based on laying areas of flat colour or lightly shaded colours and then juxtaposing them. Our goal for this month will be to create a fractal which looks like a vector artwork! A suggestion: to do this, work mostly in the gradient editor. It IS simpler than it sounds. :)

Remember: to enter each challenge, post your deviation's link and thumb in a comment of this journal, and specify which challenge you are entering the fractal in. ALSO: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LINK THIS NEWS ARTICLE IN THE DEVIATION!

Please spread the word by advertising this news article - we definitely want more participants. The more, the merrier!

This challenge's deadline is November 30th, 2015. Ready, set, GO!!! :eager:

I'm so very sorry. I edited the initial FRACTAL MANIPULATION CONTEST journal in my stash which for some reason wasn't working right! It couldn't possibly had been the writer.......lol

Here's the correct link [link]

I will update my comments to the other groups as well!

I hope you'll participate and help spread the word!

Many Hugs! ~Kitty!!
